After raising more than $600 for those with leukaemia, losing his locks was the final cut for 15 year-old Wanganui High School student Tana Marker. Tana said yesterday he chose the leukaemia charity because it was better to "support it now than later".

GOVT gets tough on fines, licence loss or jail

Drivers with overdue traffic fines could have their licences suspended under a new law, which would also send people with overdue fines to prison. The proposed law - the Courts and Criminal Matters Bill - introduces stiffer penalties for overdue fines.

New i-SITE for Wanganui

Tourism New Zealand reports a new riverside i-SITE has been opened on Wanganui’s Taupo Quay to replace the old visitor centre on Guyton Street. The Wanganui District Council has invested $2.1 million in the new visitor centre, which includes a Wanganui shop, a unique display area showcasing native bush from the Wanganui area, and a
friendly team of i-SITE staff to offer visitors information about New Zealand and assist with bookings.

New Zealand Masters Games – February 2011

Centred on Springvale Park in its own Games Village, this nine day event comprises 67 different sports and over 580 individual events. A highlight of the games is the proximity of the venues and the main shopping areas, most within 10 minutes drive from the village. This is a biannual event shared between Wanganui and Dunedin each year.
