Adam Parore, the new owner of Pegasus
Adam Parore’s purchase of Pegasus Rental Cars has largely gone un-noticed by the press but, as far as the Pegasus franchisees and staff are concerned, it’s big breaking news.
Of course, the Adam Parore name is synonymous with New Zealand cricket – he was a former wicket-keeper and batsman, playing 78 test matches and 179 1-Day Internationals for his home country. When won his place with the Black Caps and debuted for New Zealand (against England, in 1990) he became the first Maori to represent New Zealand in cricket.
Adam earned an enviable record in the sport. When he retired in 2002, he finished with 204 test match dismissals – a New Zealand record for a wicket-keeper (194 of those dismissals were from catches). Of course that achievement would require lightning-fast reactions, but Parore also proved he was useful with the bat and could also do the hard, slow slog - he holds the record for the highest 1-Day International innings total achieved without scoring a boundary (96 vs India, in 1994)!
Following his retirement from cricket, Adam Parore made a successful entry into the business world. In 2005 he commenced work as a mortgage broker, establishing Adam Parore Mortgages – now a well-known name in the finance sector. Then, in 2007, he purchased another venture, Small Business Accounting (SBA), which offers simple accounting solutions to the accounting minefield that all business operators, big and small, must face. Now with 44 branches in New Zealand, the SBA growth has been extraordinary, and has now expanded into Australia with 9 branches there.
So what are Adam’s plans for Pegasus Rental Cars? When it comes to planning, Adam will be slow and deliberate – a little like that performance against India in 1994. But it won’t be a hard slog – Adam talks eloquently and passionately about his ideas and desires for the future of the chain and one can sense his excitement. And he’s taking people with him – he knows it’s a team game and he has been busy seeking out ideas and offering support from all of the existing players within Pegasus Rental Cars.
