Big news: 2012 oysters to be big 'uns

Posted by The Southland Times on 29 February 2012 | 0 Comments

Oyster lovers could have to wait another day to get their first fill of the delicacy for the year with strong winds expected for the open of the season tomorrow. Direct Fish and Oyster owner Willie Calder yesterday said winds were forecasted at 35 knots for tomorrow, well above the 20 knots he considered bad, so he did not expect any fishermen to be out in Foveaux Strait in the morning. Posted by Bay of Plenty Times on 29 February 2012 | 0 Comments

Sweeping local government reforms, expected to be announced this week, could lead to the creation of a super council for the entire Bay of Plenty. The prospect of a super council has been discussed informally by the region's six mayors ever since the creation of Auckland's Super City, and Mr Crosby hoped the reforms to be announced by Local Government Minister Nick Smith would remove obstacles to amalgamation.
