We are a nationwide operation, but we’re NOT owned by an overseas corporate. A unique feature of the Pegasus Rental Car business is that all the Pegasus outlets are franchised to owner/operators who really know their business. Each of our operators is keen to make sure that each hire goes just as it should for the customer – easy, enjoyable, economical – and in a car you can depend upon.
We pride ourselves on our offer of clean, comfortable, presentable and reliable vehicles.
Our vehicles are NOT the latest models – but you’ll find they do the job so well. Almost all the cars are automatics. The variety ranges from sub-compact cars such as the Daihatsu Sirion, to compact 4-door hatchback Nissan Notes and Nissan Sunny sedans, and Intermediate models such as the Toyota Camry. We also have a range of station wagons, RVs, 7-8 seater “people movers” such as the Toyota Estima and 12-seater Minibuses (manual transmissions).

Our quick and easy airport service works really well, it is efficient and, within usual business hours, it’s all free-of-charge.

Why rent with Pegasus Rental Cars in Wellington?
Pick Up a Car Just About Anywhere...
The Wellington branch of Pegasus Rental Cars is located in Miramar, near the airport. We happily service all of Wellington City, with pick-up and drop off possible in the city centre, the railway station and the interisland ferry terminals.
No matter where you want to meet up with us around Wellington, it should be possible. Just ask us.
Pick up a Car Any Time!
Our business hours are 8am to 6pm, seven days a week. Outside those hours an after-hours call-out fee will apply.
Easy Airport Pick-Ups
Once you have your bags and you’re ready to leave the airport, call us on our 0800 number. We’ll then pop over to pick you up (usually in the car you are renting so we don’t have to transfer bags again!), bring you back to the depot, sign you up and away you go. Easy!
Then, on return, the hirer comes back to the depot and we zip them back to the airport where they go straight to check in!
This service works really well, it is efficient and, within usual business hours, it’s all free-of-charge.
Pick Up and Drop Off Elsewhere
The most common places folk want to pick up or drop their car, aside from the airport, are the Cook Strait ferry terminals and the Central Railway Station, and at their accommodation. Almost anything is possible, however a delivery charge of $20 applies.
Insurance
Insurance is included in the cost of the hire. However, it does not include tyre damage or glass damage. Tyre damage cannot be insured against but it is possible to buy cover against glass damage. What a hirer really needs to think about is the excess that they are liable for in the event of any insurance claim.
What is an insurance excess? The amount payable by the hirer before the insurance policy takes over the costs.
The excess payable on any rental car in New Zealand is very high (some as high as $2,500 to $3,000 or more). Our insurance excess is $1,500 + GST. That is further reducible, to $300 + GST, at extra cost. When that option is taken, it is also possible to buy glass cover at $5 per day.
Additional Equipment
Baby and Child Seats - $30 per hire.
GPS - a one day hire is $10, with the cost reducing for longer hires.
Roadside Assistance
For your peace of mind, all of our Wellington rental cars are covered by a 24-hour breakdown service. In the unlikely event of something going wrong with your car, this service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week anywhere in New Zealand.

"This is the second time we have hired a car from you and I have to say it was a pleasure. Everything was just fine and it’s always great to share a laugh when we return the car in the same condition it went out. Having used corporate rental car companies for the past 25 years, it’s a pleasure to do business with you."
